Mrs. Blair Dyal is a graduate of New Bern High School and is grateful for the opportunity to serve the community that helped shape her own educational journey. She began her teaching career in 2004 at Jamesville K–12 Schools in Martin County and returned to Craven County in 2017. Since that time, she has been actively involved with the Havelock High School Bands, first as a member of the marching band staff while serving as Director of Bands at Tucker Creek Middle School. In 2023, she joined Havelock High School full-time as Assistant Director of Bands, serving in that role for three years before becoming Director of Bands.

Mrs. Dyal is a National Board Certified Teacher and holds both a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music Education in Pedagogical Studies from East Carolina University. She is an active member of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Eastern District and has served the district in a variety of leadership roles. Her professional affiliations also include Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Women Band Directors International, and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.

Music and military service are both important parts of Mrs. Dyal’s family. Her husband, Ohmer, is a retired Navy corpsman, and her father retired from the Navy as a Religious Program Specialist. She and Ohmer have four children — Sarah, Jacob, Hunter, and Catherine — as well as their dog, Maverick. Hunter recently earned his master’s degree from William & Mary. Sarah and Jacob are both students at East Carolina University, where Sarah is a senior pursuing a degree in trumpet performance and Jacob is a freshman music education major. Catherine is a freshman at the University of Maine. Somehow, the Dyal household has produced several brass players, despite Mrs. Dyal’s primary instrument being the clarinet!

Outside of the band room, Mrs. Dyal enjoys reading, especially historical fiction, as well as swimming, camping, traveling, and exploring new places. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with her family and supporting her children in their many adventures.
